Dragon 🐉 Letter #68
From Adversity to Resilience:
In the vast expanse of the cosmos, where stars dance to the ancient rhythms of Time, a profound thread is being woven — one that weaves through our ancestral lineage and resonates within the very core of our being. In this tapestry of life, my personal story finds its rhythm deeply woven into the fabric of our existence, as I explore the mystical union of our inner chemistry with the celestial realms.
Growing up in a mixed Indigenous family that embraced a high Flow lifestyle, I discovered a sanctuary amidst a childhood marked by unimaginable adversity of losing a twin, childhood sexual assault and violence, and by 16, losing my father — our high Flow captain — to gun violence. This high Flow upbringing, deeply rooted in the rhythms of nature and the wisdom of my ancestors, provided a neuro-protective foundation, guiding me toward healing through the lens of archetypal astrology and the cosmic dance of Flow.
It’s here, in this sacred dance, through my work at Ixchel Lunar Consulting illuminated a path, revealing how our emotional and mental states, influenced by brain chemicals, mirror universal patterns and cosmic influences. This journey transcends mere productivity, inviting us into a transformative embrace with the universe.
From Indigenous Roots to Cosmic Insights:
The practices and beliefs of my Indigenous heritage were not mere traditions; they were vibrant experiences that connected me to the Flow of life. As the oldest of five siblings, I was given the responsibility of keeping our heritage alive. In elementary school I was part of the local Ballet Folklórico troupe performing dances in traditional costumes of Mesoamerica to audiences at schools and public events.
As I grew up I was taught the importance of corn and where we come from, celebrated in the annual Tamale Day where I organized our extended family, gathering to make over 100 dozen tamales for winter sustenance.
This connection deepened in my decade-long healing journey with therapist Allan Harrison, and later in my graduate studies mentorship with luminaries like Richard Tarnas and Stanislav Grof.
They illuminated the archetypal patterns reflected in my adverse childhood experiences, which led me to uncover the connections with the neurochemistry of my transcendent Flow states – the dance of neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin, echoing the movements of the Sun, Moon, and planets. A pattern that emerged through working with the Passion Recipe (h/t Steven Kotler), knitting my unique and somewhat disparate passions together into a gorgeous wrap that I look forward to being with everyday.
Flow: A Bridge Between the Cosmic and the Personal:
Steven Kotler and the Flow Research Collective, my mentors in training for a high Flow life, highlighted its practical aspects. For me, Flow is an embodied, haptic relationship with the Cosmos and Time, deeply ingrained in my Indigenous heritage. It’s about harmonizing our personal rhythms with the universal, finding balance in our daily lives. This perspective of Flow as a lived experience became integral to my coaching and consulting work, helping my clients make meaningful impact in their leadership and bodies of work.
Why This Journey Matters:
In a world often disconnected from its celestial roots, understanding this sacred dance is more crucial than ever. For revolutionary leaders, therapists, neuroscientists, and astrologers, this knowledge is a lodestar, guiding our patients and clients back to a harmonious alignment with the universe. It offers a deeper, more meaningful approach to personal and collective evolution, transcending the superficial and reaching into the soul of existence.
The principles of celestial influence on neurochemistry hold universal relevance, transcending cultural, and geographical boundaries. We all utilize these neurochemicals to one degree or another. This approach offers a common language through which individuals from diverse backgrounds can explore and understand their inner workings. For instance, regardless of cultural heritage, the impact of the Moon on our serotonin levels can be a shared experience, influencing our emotional well-being.
Furthermore, this methodology can seamlessly integrate into various therapeutic and coaching practices, enriching traditional techniques with a deeper understanding of the cosmic influences on human behavior and emotions. It serves as a bridge, connecting the wisdom of ancient traditions with modern psychological practices.
Bridging the Celestial and the Cerebral:
The intricate tapestry of this celestial narrative revealed to me a crucial connection: the relationship between planetary archetypes and the neurochemical dynamics of Flow.
In the intricate tapestry of this celestial narrative, a crucial thread emerges: the relationship between planetary archetypes and the neurochemical dynamics of Flow.
Each planet, in its celestial majesty, resonates with specific aspects of our inner chemistry. Like a lead conductor, the Sun and Mars ignite our dopamine pathways, fueling our drive and ambition. The Moon, in its serene orbit, mirrors the ebb and flow of our serotonin, governing our moods and emotional well-being. Venus, with her enchanting allure, is reflected in the oxytocin that binds us in love and connection.
Mercury, the swift messenger, correlates with the alertness and focus driven by norepinephrine. Mars, again, in its fierce aspect, embodies the endorphins that empower us through pain and challenge. Neptune provides the relaxing ease through nitric oxide, increasing our intuition and readiness for the seamless experience of Flow.
Expansive Jupiter aligns with anandamide, the bliss molecule, expanding our consciousness and sense of possibility. Saturn, the great synthesizer, orchestrates this neurochemical symphony, ensuring harmony and balance.
This celestial choreography, deeply embedded in the wisdom of our ancestors, guides us through the stages of Flow, which I’ve modified as: from Relational Recovery and Rest to Struggle then Release, and into the transcendental Flow state where we are in timeless unity with the universe, and back again to Relational Recovery and Rest. Address Skepticism with Jungian Archetypes and Scientific Support:
Addressing skepticism, it’s important to note the scientific grounding of Jungian archetypes, which are now recognized as fundamental structures of the psyche, deeply embedded in our collective unconscious. These archetypes, much like astrological symbols, provide a framework for understanding universal patterns in human behavior and experiences. Modern psychology and neuroscience have begun to explore how these archetypal structures manifest in our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, offering a scientific basis for what was once considered purely symbolic. This exploration bridges the gap between the mystical and the empirical, showing that the archetypal and astrological symbols we work with are not just fanciful constructs but are rooted in the very real dynamics of the human psyche.
The integration of archetypal astrology with neurobiology in understanding Flow states is not just a bridging of cultural wisdom and modern science; it finds support in contemporary neurobiological and psychological research. Studies in neurobiology have shown how neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin, which are linked to planetary archetypes in my approach, play crucial roles in our emotional and cognitive processes.
For instance, a study published in the journal ‘Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews’ (Smith et al., 2019) highlights the role of dopamine in motivation and reward-seeking behavior, echoing the attributes of Mars in driving ambition and determination.
Similarly, serotonin’s role in mood regulation and social behavior, as discussed in ‘Young, S. N. (2007). How to increase serotonin in the human brain without drugs. *Journal of Psychiatry & Neuroscience*, 32(6), 394–399, mirrors the Moon’s influence on emotional well-being.
Research in cognitive neuroscience has shown that metaphors (like the Moon’s symbology) are not just linguistic tools but can actually shape the way we think and perceive the world. This aligns with the symbolic use of language and imagery in shaping human cognition and perception. Reference: Lakoff, G., & Johnson, M. (2008). “Metaphors We Live By.” This book discusses how metaphors shape our understanding of the world and are reflected in our language and thought processes.
These scientific findings not only elucidate the connections drawn between celestial bodies and neurochemistry but also demonstrate how ancient wisdom and modern science can converge to provide a holistic understanding of human behavior and consciousness.
This new synthesis offers a comprehensive framework for exploring the depths of the human psyche, bridging the gap between the mystical and the empirical, and opening new avenues for therapeutic and personal development practices.
Clarifying the Connection Between Personal and Cosmic:
The connection between personal experiences and cosmic archetypes is more than symbolic; it’s a reflection of how celestial patterns can influence our daily lives. For example, an individual experiencing a period of introspection and change might find resonance with the transformative energy of Pluto, guiding them through a process of deep personal transformation.
Similarly, someone embarking on a new venture might tap into the initiating energy of Aries, harnessing this energy to face challenges with courage. By understanding these influences, individuals can learn to navigate life’s ups and downs with greater awareness and intention, aligning their actions with the natural rhythms of the cosmos.
The Role of Ixchel Lunar Consulting in Practical Applications:

In the realm of practical applications, the integration of neurochemical and archetypal dynamics into Flow coaching has shown remarkable results. For instance, a leader in a high-stress environment utilized this approach to manage anxiety and enhance decision-making. By understanding the influence of Mars on their dopamine pathways, they learned to channel their natural drive more effectively, leading to improved team dynamics and creativity.
Another case involved a creative professional who struggled with blockages. Through recognizing the Venusian influence on their oxytocin levels, they were able to foster deeper connections in their relational recovery activities to unlock new levels of creativity. These examples demonstrate the tangible benefits of aligning one’s personal chemistry with cosmic patterns, offering powerful tools for stress management, creativity enhancement, and personal growth.
