Dragon 🐉 Letter #90: You’re not broken. The grind is.
There’s a kind of courage not everyone talks about — the kind where you walk away, where you name the subtle acts of violence masquerading as sweetness. Where you refuse to shrink, explain, or contort your brilliance to soothe someone else’s discomfort.
I entered a space built around the idea of stepping into authority. But when my presence challenged the unspoken hierarchy, I was met not with respect — but with passive aggression wrapped in condescension.
I brought knowledge. Generosity. Clarity. I shared openly, with transparency, sharing an affiliate link and offering a tool that’s changed how I do business for someone searching for options. I did the very thing these spaces claim to value: empowered, relational leadership.
And for that, I was admonished for not asking for consent and then being infantilized. “Honey.” “Sweetie.” As if my insights were only acceptable when made small, nonthreatening. Palatable.
What does it mean to ask for consent to share a link — but not offer consent in how you address someone, speak to someone, or gender someone?
This is the moment I reclaim:
Authority isn’t how loudly I speak — it’s how clearly I listen to my own body when it says, “This isn’t safe.”
Authority is choosing to leave, to draw a line, to say “no” with my feet.
To trust that where I’m going, the people will call me by my name. With reverence. With truth.
I don’t need their permission.
I’ve already chosen myself.
Burning Down the Colonial Clock
I used to think burnout was a personal failing.
That if I could just manage Time better, I wouldn’t feel like I was drowning in a sea of tasks, expectations, deadlines that never had my rhythm in mind.
But the truth hit like a drumbeat in my bones —
I wasn’t broken. The clock was.
The colonial clock was never made for those of us who live by cycles, intuition, creative bursts.
It was built for extraction.
For obedience.
For keeping us in line.
So I stopped trying to bend myself into someone else’s rhythm.
And I started listening —
To the moon.
To the wind.
To my ancestors.
That’s when Time softened.
It stopped cracking the whip and started opening portals.
That’s what Time Devotion is.
Not a planner. Not a productivity hack.
A liberation ritual.
It’s how we remember we are not machines.
We are ecosystems.
You’re not lazy. You’re not inconsistent. You’re not failing.
You’re rhythmic. You’re relational. You’re alive.
Time Devotion is how we reclaim that.
If your body’s been whispering — or screaming — that the grind is eating your joy, your creativity, your essence…
This is your invitation to start listening to your rhythm.
To burn down the colonial clock and build a rhythm that worships your brilliance.

Your Sanctuary to Cultivate Wild Presence for Thriving with a Planet in Transition
I was raised and bore children on the traditional, unceded, and stolen lands of the Coast and Central Valley Miwok (colonized as Petaluma, CA) and Nisenan (colonized as Sacramento and Fair Oaks, CA), past, present, and future. I also write, work, and live in the highland forest of the traditional, unceded and stolen lands of the Totonac, Nahua, and Mexicah, past, present, and future, in what is known as Coatepec, Veracruz, Mexico.
P.P.S. I do not live or consent to the colonial impositions regarding the construct of Time. I also practice honoring rhythms of work, play, and rest so that I can serve you with embodied presence and with loving care. This means I may take several days to respond to your requests and questions. (h/t Eva Glamaris)
