Dragon š Letter #77: Wander with me through the topology of my somatic states as I ponder nourishment amidst fascism, porosity, and medical attention.
Queering, fermenting, wandering fractal Time, mapping the edge.
US fascism as slow-moving train wreck. Wondering what to say, how to respond. Unfreeze.
Foraged, fed from borrowed land.
Retaining fluids. Leaky ceilings. Leaky guts.
Porosity as inaccessible nutrients. Weight as un-metabolized energy.
Hand-made tortillas as containers, being held. Food magic.
Fireflies are magical. How do they get inside? Some kind of quantum popping through windows.
Queering⦠Fermenting⦠Wandering Fractal Time⦠Mapping the Edgeā¦
Itās been a minute since Iāve had capacity to write a Dragon Letter. I could simply say I had time blindness, but I, obviously, canāt stand that term. Because Iām not not experiencing Time. Iāve fallen into a different Time.
When I go deep ā queering, fermenting, wandering ā I find myself in a queer space where Time flows differently. Thereās an aspect of spiral, Indigenous Time that feels more fractal when Iām wandering the edges, Nepantla, betwixt and between.
Once I learned about how mapping edges can be a challenge because depending on how detailed one is, you can get lost in the fractal edge that expands a coastline infinitely large.
Being a 4/1, I completely feel that when I get in my line 1 investigator/ researcher mode of being. Preparing the guidebooks for Time Weavers is such a somatic, mycelial, fermenting of ways of being. I pour myself so deeply into that space. I find it difficult to know when Iām done.
Even writing the highlights above for this Dragon Letter felt poetic and semi-complete on its own. But I know I must fill in the tesseract between the points on the journey.
Completeness is fugitive. Such is art.
US fascism as slow-moving train wreck. Wondering what to say, how to respond. Unfreeze.
In the spaces between creativity, I found myself in a frozen state more than once. Iām especially noticing it with all the news coming out of the US. Like a slow-moving train wreck, I canāt tear my gaze away. If I didnāt have loved ones at risk, maybe it would be easier.
Mars and Uranus are transiting where Saturn was at the time of Gen Xers born about 52-53 years ago. It feels like we being called in to this mess. The last time Mars was here we were experiencing similar threats of fascism in the US (Summer 2022). Those at risk asked me to teach a workshop on how to responsibly exit the US. If that feels helpful, let me know.
For now, Iām just trying to notice when my nervous system is activated so I can bring it back to a more neutral place. Such is how we navigate these times.
I wrote this last Dragon Letter Wednesday before the attempted assassination of TFG (That Fucking Guy, 45). As someone who has survived political violence (my father, a former honorary Mayor, was murdered by 11 bullets in his office in 1988) and I was pushed out of office in 2012, I know what assassinations feel like. And I also know the justice system doesnāt provide justice for BBIBOC.
And while those from privilege on the left are calling for an end to political violence, I will just remind the reader that in corrupt nation-states, non-violence only leads to genocide.
The political train wreck we are watching shows what happens when people choose power over progress. Dozens of power-hungry and corrupt Boomers will get re-elected to office this year rather than pass the baton to Gen Jones, Gen-Xers, or younger, less qualified people so they can hold on to power and profit from the stock market by serving on congressional and senate committees.
Foraged, fed from borrowed land.
The past few weeks as Iāve contemplated how to prepare for these times Iāve been revisiting my permaculture work from 2007-2016. This year Iāve been studying the Mayan Abix system with ajqiāj Tata Jerico, which holds the wisdom of the milpa or three sisters (corn, beans and squash) at its core. Abix is a system of growing a food forest, with so many layers of food and medicine for humans and the animal kin that depend of these layers as well.
As I transitioned my domain from ixchel.love to decolonizingtime.com I discovered how much organic traffic was still coming from my Pinterest pins about growing food forests. So Iāve been slowly moving those landing pages into a new section on Food Forests. Itās been difficult to do because most of that content is based on borrowed land in California that was destroyed when we fled the US.
My own diet continues to devolve here in Chiapas because of the lack of clean water. I just finished my third round of antibiotics from picking up that damn amoeba again. Itās likely from the shower water because Iām only eating cooked foods.
We very much wanted to create a food forest on this borrowed land, but without clean water to grow the food, I would be skeptical of eating anything grown. I have so many seeds and plans that sit dormant.
I was fed by this land last night though. I discovered coral mushrooms growing in the forest on an old log. I made vegan cheese, sautƩed mushrooms, and onions on hand-made corn tortillas. They were amazing.
As Iāve been exploring the food forest content Iāve decided to rework my food forest course into an updated offering. Several folks have reached out to express an interest in this. And it feels like a good practice for finding some agency amidst fascism. A way to continue to prepare for a planet in transition while bringing us more in relationship with the land. I might combine it with something live. Letting that ferment and percolate. Stay tunedā¦
Retaining fluids. Leaky ceilings. Leaky guts.
The exposure to bad water could be remedied with a whole house UV system ($500-$1000 we donāt have) or possibly adding chlorine to the water. But the last time we tried adding chlorine to the cistern the whole house smelled of chlorine for over a week. Not something I want to shower in.
As renters, weāve invested in borrowed lands to our detriment in the past. This time, with fewer resources, weāre struggling to know where to put our resources and energy.
And having celiac makes carpet bombing my gut microbiome all the more tragic. My microbiome and GI tract is so compromised Iāve begun retaining fluids n my upper abdomen.
With the rainy season, weāve also had leaky ceilings and mold, which is also very common here. Tile roofs and wood ceilings are lovely, but there arenāt enough roofers to fix the leaks on spotty sunny days when itās dry enough to walk on the tiles.
Between the leaky ceilings and leaky guts, Iāve been better. This intrusion has been a theme for the past couple of years. Iām very curious to know how I can rewrite that narrative.
Porosity as inaccessible nutrients. Weight as un-metabolized energy.
The porosity of my GI tract has led to an inaccessibility to nutrients and a decided inability to metabolize fats. This excess weight Iāve been carrying is a lot of un-metabolized energy, locked up in me. Iāve been searching for a local healer, maybe an acupuncturist, that can help me sort this out. Healing is definitely not a solo endeavor. My gastroenterologist wants me to get an ultrasound ASAP.
Without medical insurance, everything comes out of pocket.
To cover medical expenses and prepare for possible gallbladder removal, Iām offering a new immersion being pre-recorded this Thursday in Leslie Tagordaās private circle. And Iām offering slide scale pricing of $55 and $111.

Hand-made tortillas as containers ā being held. Food magic.
This week we have had hand-made corn tortillas (nixtamalzed) to make new foods (I was really in a food rut). When I eat breakfast burritos I feel like Iām a kid sitting across from my grandpa eating his huevos rancheros that my abuelita would make him every day. He would drink his coffee, finish his breakfast and then we would head out to downtown Sacramento where I went to school, and where he worked as a plumber for the school district.
Daily fresh hand-made tortillas have been a life goal of mine. Tata Jerico had recommended pinole, a drink made from roasted white corn flour to help with bone health, but white corn tortillas feel even more healing. The food gets held in my hands. I feel held eating tacos, quesadillas, or breakfast burritos, knowing the work that went into making the tortillas. Soaking the corn. Grinding it. Preparing the masa, then cooking the tortillas on the comal over the fire. Pure food magic.
Fireflies are magical. How do they get inside? Some kind of quantum popping through windows.
The fireflies have been lovely at night. They fly by the window in the bedroom as if to say hello. And somehow every morning I find one or two inside. I have no idea how they get inside. But they seem to have quantum abilities to pop through the windows.

Your Sanctuary to Cultivate Wild Presence for Thriving with a Planet in Transition
I was raised and bore children on the traditional, unceded, and stolen lands of the Coast and Central Valley Miwok (colonized as Petaluma, CA) and Nisenan (colonized as Sacramento and Fair Oaks, CA), past, present, and future. I also write, work, and live in the highland forest of the traditional, unceded and stolen lands of the Totonac, Nahua, and Mexicah, past, present, and future, in what is known as Coatepec, Veracruz, Mexico.
P.P.S. I do not live or consent to the colonial impositions regarding the construct of Time. I also practice honoring rhythms of work, play, and rest so that I can serve you with embodied presence and with loving care. This means I may take several days to respond to your requests and questions. (h/t Eva Glamaris)
