Tree Frogs, Time, and Flow: A Birthday Reflection 🎁

Let’s Celebrate with Flow

Beautiful Wildlings!

In Mayan cosmology, frogs are powerful symbols of transformation, fertility, and abundance. Frogs remind us that transition isn’t something to fear but to embrace. They sing during the rains, calling abundance, fertility, and life to the land.

These remarkable creatures are deeply tied to the cycles of life and nature. Their ability to lay thousands of eggs connects them to fertility and wealth, while their metamorphosis from tadpole to frog embodies rebirth and the rhythms of transformation.

Frogs also have a special relationship with water, rain, and plant growth. In Mayan tradition, they are depicted as the musicians of the rain creator Chac, their calls heralding the rains that bring life to the earth.

The Mayan month with the most rainfall was called uo—a name echoing the sound of a frog’s call. Living between land and water, earth and sky, frogs remind us to honor the liminal spaces where life’s most profound shifts occur.

As I shared in my last Dragon Letter, I’ve found three tree frogs in my cistern daily, a surprising and delightful reminder of these teachings. It feels like an invitation from Time itself, urging me to honor its flow and embrace the spaces between life’s most profound shifts.

The photo I’m sharing above of three tree frogs sitting together feels especially meaningful. Three is a sacred number in many traditions, representing balance, harmony, and unity. (Today is a 3 day in the Mayan Cholq’ij calendar, too.)

In the Mayan Cholq’ij, the number 3 is associated with creativity, movement, interconnection, and the three hearthstones. It represents the dynamic interplay between self, others, and the spiritual world — the first sparks of momentum that bring an idea or intention into being.

In the Cholq’ij, the number 3 carries specific spiritual and energetic significance. Each of the thirteen numbers in the calendar is associated with a tone, which interacts with the day sign (nawal) to create a unique energy for the day. Here’s what 3 represents:

Energy of 3 in the Cholq’ij:

  1. Creativity and Expression:
The tone of 3 is associated with the creative force and the energy of self-expression. It represents the first steps of creation when ideas or intentions take tangible form in the world.

  2. Interconnection:
It symbolizes the dynamic interplay between the self, others, and the spiritual world. It is a number that highlights relationships, communication, and collaboration.

  3. Movement and Flow:
The number 3 is linked to motion and the process of bringing something into action or momentum. It represents the initial sparks that set a journey or project in motion.

  4. Challenges to Balance:
While 3 brings creativity and movement, it can also highlight the challenges of finding balance in the process. It asks for awareness of how energies are directed and encourages thoughtful action.

In the Cholq’ij, the 3 is seen as a dynamic and lively energy, providing the momentum to begin the work of creation or transformation. When paired with a nawal (day sign), it adds an active, outward-moving quality, emphasizing growth, relationships, and the importance of connection.

These tiny messengers seem to whisper:

“Stay present. Trust the rhythm. Flow is found in the in-between.”

The frogs want me to remind you that Time, like the spaces they inhabit, isn’t linear or rigid — it’s alive, cyclical, and relational. Their presence feels like a gentle nudge to rethink the stories we’ve been told about Time and how we move through it.

We’re taught to believe that if we just organize our Time better, everything will fall into place. But what if the issue isn’t how you’re managing your Time —but how you relate to it?

In this season of too much to do and not enough hours in the day, I want to offer a new perspective: Time isn’t your enemy — it’s your friend, lovingly waiting for you to turn to for support and guidance. Reclaim this relationship.

If you’ve ever felt this:

  • That nagging sense that no matter how much you accomplish, you’re still behind

  • The weight of overcommitting because you’re afraid of missing out or haven’t learned that “No.” is a complete sentence

  • Waking up at 3 a.m., your mind racing with to-dos, wondering how to slow down without falling behind…

I see you.

Here’s the truth: You’re not “bad” at managing your time. The issue lies in the story we’ve been told about Time itself — a story rooted in scarcity and extraction, not connection and flow.

In my work, I guide you to see Time not as a commodity to burn through but as an ecological force — a Flow you can align with. Through tools like Human Design and Indigenous Ecological Timeways, we’ll explore how your unique, energetic design influences your relationship with Time and Flow.

Practical Human Design Insights for the Season:

For your open centers:

Your open centers are like sponges, absorbing energy, ideas, and emotions from the people and environments around you. During this season of heightened activity, it’s easy to confuse what you’re picking up from others with what’s truly yours. Pay attention to moments when you feel overwhelmed or scattered — that may be a signal to step back and release energy that isn’t in sync with your core.

One practical tip: At the end of each day, take a few minutes to sit quietly and ask yourself, “What am I holding that isn’t mine?” Visualize those energies leaving your body, like exhaling a deep breath, and feel yourself return to center.

For your defined centers:

Your defined centers are your anchors, providing a steady source of energy and rhythm. Trust in the consistent wisdom of your design, especially when external pressures make you feel like you need to hustle harder or adjust your Flow to meet others’ expectations. Your rhythm is uniquely yours — it’s reliable, and it’s enough.

One practical tip: When you feel pressured to act or decide quickly, pause. Take a breath and connect to your innate rhythm. Ask yourself, “Am I acting from my truth or responding to someone else’s urgency?” Let your internal timing guide you.

Take a moment to reflect:
Where are you trying to “push through,” ignoring the natural ebbs and flows of your capacity?

Time isn’t something to manage — it’s relational. It thrives in the space you give it to unfold. By honoring your open centers and trusting your defined ones, you’ll create the conditions for Time to support you rather than work against you.

If you’ve been feeling stuck in this season’s chaos, let’s shift that together.
