The importance of a room of one’s own cannot be understated | Dragon 🐉 Letter #43

[You are receiving this recent Dragon Letter because you subscribed between letters. Enjoy until the next one come!]

Hola Wildlings!

I’m waiting in anticipation for my office furniture delivery in February so I can move into the casita and have my own space again. I’ve seen this as a theme for others I follow on IG and even some of my clients.

It’s a privilege and a necessity for getting into Flow for our body of work in the world.

Honestly, I really struggled to spend some of the money from the insurance on my storage space loss on something like furniture. But I’m seeing it as an investment in myself and my work (which is so centered on my clients making an impact in the world through their work) instead.

As I slowly rebrand, I’ve made some style changes to the Dragon Letters. I’m also quiet-quitting Instagram.

When IG started shadowbanning decolonial work I began to see big hits to my engagement and views. I’ve loved how others are dealing with it in clever ways.

I’ve been honing my IG bio and creating a 15-grid based on inspo from Angela Morris and Jordan Gill. (Peek my draft layout below).

I also rebranded my IG handle from @ixchel.love to @decolonizing_time during this process. So, if you follow me there, you’ll notice that handle changed.

Lastly, I want to shout out the One Word Forum from Lara Eastburn. If you like noodling on words and how we use them, she has a live chat regularly that is delish. We met via Kelly Diels. Lara is a culturemaker for doing ads different.

Please read the information on Tortuguita, the first environmental protester known to be killed by cops below. This IS fascism coming to a police force near you too.

I’ve lived in a country that forcefully banned protesting and even gathering. The US is ahead of schedule in becoming the next Nicaragua.

Stay wild, love fiercely. Your presence is golden.

xo Ixchel

Say Their Name: Manuel Teran, AKA Tort, was murdered on 1/18/23 by Atlanta police for defending the Weelaunee Forest

They were camping in a public park to defend the Weelaunee Forest. They are the first environmental protester known to be killed by US police. The Twitter link is a big thread of submissions to love and mourn Tortugita.

350.org writes:, “Tortuguita’s “crime” was defending a forest in the heart of Atlanta — but not just any forest, one that is being destroyed so that the police can have more space for their “Cop City” training the police using military-grade facilities.”

If you think this issue is only an Atlanta problem, you’ve not been paying attention.

Back in 2011 when the Occupy movement spread to other cities across the US I was on city council. Myself and my Latino council mate were diligently working to keep our police force from being militarized against the community while other predominantly Black cities like Oakland were testing the latest strategies to contain protesters through deadly-force adjacent methods (which later impacted my family when a family member was kettled and arrested for being a medic for injured protesters of the BART cop murder of Oscar Grant).

To ensure the safety of the Occupiers of our local park, I joined the movement and attended several sessions in listening mode.

This cop city in Atlanta will not happen. But it’s up to everyone to ensure that it doesn’t and to demand your local police are not militarizing. Learn more at Stop Cop City.

A story of gratitude from Popol Wuj (the sacred book of the Mayans)

In my talks on Decolonizing Time I’ve shared the top 3 practices for Dreaming in the Wild (based on scientific studies of human performance). I call these our MVP (minimum viable practice) because this is foundational floor we stand on for having resilience for these Times.

Central to the work I do with clients is slowly and consistently helping them create their rituals for their MVP based on their passions. It’s part of the Flow Stack training I receive when I certified in High Flow Coaching with Steven Kotler.

These are:

  • Movement
  • Mindfullness
  • Reverberation (what I call gratitude, see the 23 Rituals book for more on why I use this term…)

This recent email from Mayan Wisdom Project shares a story of why gratitude is so important in human evolution. Did you know early humans were wiped off the face of the Earth because they were ungrateful and exploitative?!

I love the story because of the deep respect and animism for everyday objects, a sibling of Marie Kondo’s work. We do a lot of shifting our relationship to things and devices in the Radical Rest Retreat Handbook (part of the Wild Presence Collective practices).

The practice of reverberation (experiential, relational gratitude) is one of honoring the abundance in our lives, a way of connecting and honoring Jupiter.

What we witness with curiosity, joy or reverberation expands.

Next Wild Presence Collective Cohort is Emerging…

During enrollment last year some new enrollees had similar questions that arose about the container and the format of the calls that I know will be helpful for anyone else close to getting over the hump but looking for that “Hell Yes!” clarity for making the commitment to gather with us. (If you’re close and want to chat, reply back and let me know!)

In order to understand the container I’ve created, it is helpful to revisit the JEDI (akin to DEIB) model that guides me in leading a container.

JUSTICE-CENTERING

When you walk a Japanese garden you understand the restitution of the nervous system as Justice. Restitution is born from tending relationship to Earth’s garden beauty. Justice doesn’t have a feeling. It’s neutral. Justice-centering is an action, a realignment with the Cosmos back to stasis, a cultural restoration.

What does justice-centering feel like? It is joy that comes in making connection to ensure the world a safer place for all. “Safety is not a lack of threat [injustice]. Safety is the presence of connection.” – Dr. Gabor Maté’s synthesis of Dr. Stephen Porges.

These containers are about making connections to develop safety for repair. The daily practices you keep are where the tending and repair happens in your life. The container is where you can reflect on that in brave connection.

EMERGENCE

What is Emergence? “Emergence is the way complex systems and patterns arise out of a multiplicity of relatively simple interactions [relations]” — adrienne maree brown quoting Nick Obolenksy.

When we appreciate how systems work, the riotous beauty that happens at the edge of two systems, we can get a sense of what Emergence looks like. This way of knowing goes beyond ecology, equity, and equality to accept the Emergence of all relationships (human, other living, non-living energies) through differences, a necessary process of evolution.

Current human-centered social constructs of equity, diversity and inclusion are insufficient. Instead we must de-center humans, re-center natural systems, and include Indigenous ways of being to resolve the current imbalance.

When we re-center Indigenous ways of being in collective, individual problems can be witnessed through a collective eye and heart. We discover the challenges we face are not ours alone, and can collectively craft response-ability for dismantling and shifting systems of late-stage capitalism.

DECOLONIZE

Colonization is systematic genocide, domination, extraction, and severing of Indigenous inhabitants — all life — from the land. Adding diversity to colonialism is does nothing.

Decolonizing is restoring relationship of all life to Earth. If you’re not decolonizing, you’re not going to be justice-centering, emerging or interconnecting.

The decolonial work happens in your daily practice of including the world around you in your rituals, to be in relationship with non-human through Movement, Mindfulness and Reverberation practices as you find a sit spot or a path where you watch the seasons unfold.

INTERBEING

Emergence begets interconnection. adrienne mare brown elucidates, “In the framework of emergence, the whole is a mirror of the parts. Existence is fractal — the health of the cell is the health of the species and the planet.”

Ecophilosopher Glenn Albrecht calls it eutierria — oneness with Earth. Joanna Macy pulled the Buddhist thread of Interbeing in describing the mutual causality of natural systems (of which we are a part).

When your Flow state is interacting outside yourself group Flow can emerge. This experience of group Flow is the closest thing I can point to to describe what Interbeing feels like. You’ll know it when you see it.

It is my desire to bring you as close to witnessing that as I can in collective.

THE COLLECTIVE CONTAINER

For anyone that’s read my program overview and felt squishy or uncertain about what’s going to happen, I get it. Emergence can feel a bit like a slinky toy sometimes.

And if you’ve ever been in conversation with an Indigenous guide you might miss the subtly of communication. This is why I try to repeat myself when sharing this wisdom.

We’ll have some structure for the emergent qualities to come through, I promise.

As a guide, I meet people where they are. Then I help them get to where they want to be. Spoiler alert, we do that through helping them meet themselves where they are and deepening into the safety of that. Hence the Presence in Wild Presence.

It may feel a bit circuitous, but that’s working in non-linear Queer Indigenous Neuro-Emergent Time for ya.

Our Nepantla Calls are:

1ST, 2ND, + 3RD TUESDAYS:

7AM PT/ 10AM ET/ 3PM GMT /5PM SAST

Or

TUESDAYS 2PM PT/ 5PM ET/ 9AM AET <- the following Wednesday

These spaces will be for reflecting on your daily rituals (I can’t call them habits, because when you’re inviting the Muse and creating conditions for Flow, it sounds profane to call them habits. This is sacred work).

These calls are your moment for asking me questions, getting suggestions for slowing down or feedback on something you’re working on (remember I have 25+ years in running and marketing businesses and large-scale systems in the SF Bay Area), or having me peek at your astrology/Human Design for some planetary oracle, drawing on my 40+ years of watching cosmic cycles. Choose your adventure!

The second week we will likely devote to a topic or teaching, going deeper into a supportive practice. In Human Design my strategy is to respond. So questions, requests for a deeper dive, etc, are all very good ways to be self-directed in this collective coaching experience.

Our Friday Co-Rest / Co-Flow Calls

10:30-NOON PT / 1:30-3PM ET / 6:30-8PM GMT / 8:30-10PM SAST

(Open to accommodate AET with a second call time, just let me know!)

You’ll focus on the work you are bringing to this space. Need to Dream in the Wild and go offline for a bit? Want some restorative yoga? Want to complete a task you committed to doing this week? Hop on the call and share your intention of how you’re reclaiming this 90 minutes in the group. Go do the thing. Come back and share how it went (or share in Telegram if you can’t make it back for the check-out).

These calls have been an incredible space for staying in integrity on what we’re focused on. I’ve seen amazing things happen in them.

Sunday Boundless Visioning

As an Aires Rising I love the beginning of a new week, month, year for intention setting. Such great dopamine activators. You’ll learn what an Anumi is and why it’s central to creating a life filled with meaning and purpose. Sundays are for renewing those vows. We’ll share our intentions for the week in Telegram (no calls, just connecting in the group chat) and cheer each other on as we bring those to life.

My promise is to guide you in creating a foundation that serves your Wild Presence to bring forth your body of work into the world in Rhythm and Flow with the Cosmos.

If you’re ready, don’t put off your commitment to bringing forth your body of work, your divine creation any longer (whether with me, someone else, or on your own if you must).

We need your emergent work in the world. It will take all of us to rise up.

This is your prompt to commit to your creations now in a supportive collective container. We are not meant to rise up alone.

READY TO LEARN HOW TO DEEPEN INTO YOUR RHYTHMS?

Just a reminder, I don’t plan on doing full marketing outreach for a new cohort until Spring 2023 when I will raise the price to $500/mo or $6k pay-in-full (it’s currently $300/mo or $3600).

There are just 2 spots left for the Collective with 1:1 coaching tier included for $625/mo or $7500 pay-in-full (this intensive tier will increase to $13k Spring 2023 and it’s the only way to work with me 1:1 other than the ✨Astro/HD Readings).

For a limited time join us at 2022 rates…

“Ixchel is a gift for our time. Our work together transitioned me from a path of should-ing and burn out to tuning into my deepest call and making space for it.

The principles of flow Ixchel teaches are magical, rebellious and life changing. Their presence alone had a way of bringing me into deeper alignment with myself every time we met.

For anyone called to unhook from old systems and bring forth work from a deeper place within, Ixchel is a pioneer, an inspiration and incredible guide.

Ixchel’s work is world changing, one human being reoriented towards time…at a time. They are a powerhouse of wisdom, depth and knowledge and I felt so seen, informed and cared for in our session.

The way we’re doing things is not working and Ixchel is showing us a new way. I left our sessions feeling inspired, resourced and ready to be part of the change.”

— CARA JONES, UNTETHER YOUR VOICE

“Every session with Ixchel left my nervous system calm and peaceful in a full, embodied way. No matter what topic we were discussing, their ability to co-regulate without (apparent) effort, but just by being, filled me with ease and freedom.

Just being in a container with Ixchel is enough, THEN receiving their wisdom about Time, healing, breath, Flow, human design, and all things down-regulating is simply magic.

We completed by celebrating some shifts in my path since we’d begun, and we got to talking about integrity and purpose-as-essence in a really wholing and exciting way; even up to the last few minutes, we were making mind-expanding connections!

Thank you, Ixchel, for your energy and your beingness. So empowering (in such a parasympathetic way) to work with you.

Your Sanctuary to Cultivate Wild Presence for Thriving with a Planet in Transition

Land Lineage

I was raised and bore children on the traditional, unceded, and stolen lands of the Coast and Central Valley Miwok (colonized as Petaluma, CA) and Nisenan (colonized as Sacramento and Fair Oaks, CA), past, present, and future. I also write, work, and live in the highland forest of the traditional, unceded and stolen lands of the Totonac, Nahua, and Mexicah, past, present, and future, in what is known as Coatepec, Veracruz, Mexico.

P.P.S. I do not live or consent to the colonial impositions regarding the construct of Time. I also practice honoring rhythms of work, play, and rest so that I can serve you with embodied presence and with loving care. This means I may take several days to respond to your requests and questions. (h/t Eva Glamaris)
