Without it, the ache stays yours to carry
Hola! I’m Ixchel Lunar (they/them), an Indigenous-Time Ecologist, ancestral medicine guide, and rhythm witch for creative rebels, decolonial dreamers, and neuroqueer visionaries. This Substack is dedicated to weaving business, body, and belonging into something no empire can replicate. Still punk as fuck. Still cozy in the chaos.
Beautiful Wildlings,
One of the biggest thinking errors I see is this: ritual protection is optional.
It isn’t. It is the ground of safe connection. Without it, people open the door too fast, confuse spectacle for belonging, and end up carrying the ache of others alongside their own.
And that ache is heavy. It isn’t yours alone, it’s ancestral.
Ritual protection roots us back in animism… in living relationship with trees, rivers, plants, and stars who remember us. Ritual practice grounded in Source is what allows us to approach them not as resources, but as kin. It keeps the troubled dead from overwhelming us, so the well ones and our more-than-human allies can draw near with clarity.
The Ancestral Wayfinding Practice Circle begins September 10. For four weeks, we’ll walk together in a living container of ritual safety, daily practice, and trusted Source connection. This is where protection becomes embodied, and where what doesn’t belong to you is finally returned.
You don’t have to carry this ache alone.

P.S. Ritual protection isn’t superstition. It is harm reduction, animist practice, and the foundation for remembering and working with your ancestors safely.
P.P.S. Maltiox pronounced mall-tee-osh means with gratitude in K’iche Mayan.

Your Sanctuary to Cultivate Wild Presence for Thriving with a Planet in Transition
I was raised and bore children on the traditional, unceded, and stolen lands of the Coast and Central Valley Miwok (colonized as Petaluma, CA) and Nisenan (colonized as Sacramento and Fair Oaks, CA), past, present, and future. I also write, work, and live in the highland forest of the traditional, unceded and stolen lands of the Totonac, Nahua, and Mexicah, past, present, and future, in what is known as Coatepec, Veracruz, Mexico.
P.P.S. I do not live or consent to the colonial impositions regarding the construct of Time. I also practice honoring rhythms of work, play, and rest so that I can serve you with embodied presence and with loving care. This means I may take several days to respond to your requests and questions. (h/t Eva Glamaris)
