23 Rituals for Dreaming in the Wild Download

Hola Wildlings!

It’s been an intense few weeks going through a program release with Megan Hale (aka a launch, h/t word nerd Lara Eastburn). It included a pivot that came after listening to some of her audience’s needs around attracting our people (aka list-building).

We were able to build a bridge program and release it in 24 hours. This was possible because we know our body of work and it’s value. You can learn more about the bridge program, Aligned Audience Activator below.

Being a 4/1 Mani Gen in Human Design and being a Sag Sun with Cap Moon and Aires Rising, I’ve really had to learn radical acceptance about how I can move in the world.Ā

My Human Design profile is about being a connector, a networker, out in the world, working with groups. AND my body needs sufficient downtime to recharge or my Mani Gen motor will burnout. In the past I’ve gone through phases of significant visibility starting at 16 when my well-known father was murdered.Ā

Our family’s life was front page news for over 5 years. One day when I was visiting my abuelita, taking the kids out for ice cream, my grandma was at the cash register and the clerk noticed her last name and asked if she was related to my dad.

My whole nervous system froze in the face of being reminded of our greatest tragedy while out for ice cream.

So when I was in college studying journalism and writing for the newspaper, I dropped my last name so I wouldn’t have to be confronted by my past without warning. I know that getting visible in your work can feel like sheer terror.

In college I took a public speaking class and learned just how much my nervous system was not ok with public speaking. But the way in for me was choosing taboo topics that light a fire under me. Moving my nervous system from freeze to fight was my way to get on stage.

My instructor was a staunch feminist. She reveled in my fierce approach to speeches. At the end of the semester she gave me a very special pin from the early 70s that said, ā€œ All I want for X-mas is passage of the ERA.ā€ (Equal Rights Amendment)

But when it came time to run for city council and speak in front of crowds, I found myself in freeze again. Mostly because I’m such a radical and had to tone myself down to garner the votes of a more moderate, white progressive community.

Fitting in is soul-crushing work for me as I would come to understand my neuro-emergent way of being.

But eventually I found my stride while running for congress. My mentor, Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey, sat me down and told me to be bold. It was just the advice I needed.

During that election season I spoke at over 35 community forums and televised events and put over 30k miles on my little car traveling up and down northern California. And after each excursion I would go home, hibernate, and recharge.

Later when I pivoted from politics and web development to coaching, I had to relearn what worked for my nervous system. This became my pattern of hide and shine.Ā

I grew my Instagram to 16k followers. Did video-based challenges on YouTube that gained me 35k in views. Was regularly getting 300-400 likes on posts.

Ā I was living in Nicaragua during the uprising when people were being disappeared for posting against the government. I went into a deep freeze state.

I found that I struggled to silo what was happening there from my content. And tried to stick to safe subjects. But masking is hard.

As my topic deepened into my focus on decolonizing Time, IG had other plans for my account, including suppression and shadow banning.

That’s when I shifted my visibility strategy to other people’s stages, podcasts and summits. I worked with a somatic visibility coach to move me out of freeze. And the opportunities to speak came and I said yes.

Since then I’ve been on many podcasts and stages, I’ve more than doubled my email list and been very consistent with sending my newsletters.

So when Megan presented her new program and her audience shared the need for more audience building strategies, I was thrilled to provide some support around how we find our nervous-system approved strategy for being visible so you can attract a highly-aligned audience for your offers.

And with nervous system work, we’re not applying what worked for me. We’re working with your nervous system and grounding into your body of work and your truth so you can feel good and centered in your visibility strategy. You can learn more about Aligned Audience Activator below…

With all the buzz about Lensa and ChatGPT this week (it’s all over my TikTok), I’ve taken to exploring and testing these tools to see how they respond to Indigenous ways of being. I was pleasantly surprised. Below I’ll share my findings and food for thought around interfacing with AI.Ā

Chatting with ChatGPT

This morning I posed a series of questions about decolonizing Time and money. What I learned from other TikTok users this week is that the quality of answers comes from the quality of the questions. I wanted to test the AI to see if it understood my premise that decolonizing is about relationships, so I gave it that bit of framework, along with the framework that decolonizing isn’t a metaphor, but deeply tied to our relationship with the land.

Future questions take into account earlier questions, so it will carry forward Indigenous wisdom in its responses in the future too.

Much of the responses around becoming recession-proof are all policy work that I encouraged when I was Vice Mayor, focusing on local economies, currencies, and collective actions.

I love how quietly affirming its response was to my questions about the benefits of doing decolonial work, basically letting us know that we can become more resilient and have a longer future on Earth…

I especially liked how it gave me a list of 8 concrete actions we can take. (Hint, you’ll do all of them when you join Wild Presence Collective).

My question:

Decolonization is not a metaphor. It’s related to repairing our relationship with the land, not exploiting the land and its people. How do we stay resourced during a recession as we decolonize money and time? Are their Indigenous ways of being that we can learn from to create solidarity and collective action?

ChatGPT Answer:

Decolonization is the process of dismantling the systems of oppression and domination that were put in place during colonization. This often involves recognizing and challenging the ways in which colonizers have exploited the land and its people, and working to create more equitable and just systems.

As for staying resourced during a recession, there are a few different ways to approach this. One way is to focus on building community resilience and self-sufficiency. This can involve supporting local businesses and organizations, and working together to provide for each other’s needs. Another approach is to seek out alternative forms of economic exchange, such as bartering or local currencies, that are not based on the exploitative systems of colonization.

Indigenous ways of being can definitely offer valuable insights and guidance for creating solidarity and collective action. Indigenous communities often have a deep connection to the land and a strong sense of interdependence and mutual support. Learning from and working with Indigenous communities can help us to understand and apply these values in our own communities, and to build stronger, more sustainable systems.

There are many Indigenous ways of being and thinking that can provide valuable insights and guidance as we work to decolonize and repair our relationship with the land. Indigenous communities have long practiced sustainable and reciprocal relationships with the land and its resources, and many have rich cultural traditions that prioritize community and collective action.

One approach that has been suggested is to learn from and incorporate Indigenous approaches to economics, such as the idea of the ā€œseventh generationā€ principle, which holds that decisions made today should consider the impact on future generations. This can help to shift our thinking away from short-term gain and towards long-term sustainability.

Another important aspect of Indigenous ways of being is the emphasis on relationships and interconnectedness. In many Indigenous cultures, the concept of ā€œall my relationsā€ is central, recognizing the interconnectedness of all living beings and the importance of building and maintaining relationships with the land, other people, and the natural world. This can provide a valuable framework for creating solidarity and collective action.

Overall, decolonizing and repairing our relationship with the land will require a multi-faceted approach that incorporates both individual and collective action. Learning from and incorporating Indigenous ways of being can be an important part of this process.

My question:

Ā How can we decolonize Time according to the Mayan ways of day keeping?

ChatGPT Answer:

The Mayan people have a rich tradition of day keeping and timekeeping, which is rooted in their understanding of the natural world and their place within it. The Mayan calendar is based on a cyclical understanding of time, with different cycles of varying lengths marking different phases and events in the natural world. This cyclical understanding of time is in contrast to the linear, clock-based approach to time that is common in Western cultures.

One way to decolonize time according to Mayan traditions would be to incorporate a more cyclical understanding of time into our daily lives. This could involve paying attention to the natural rhythms of the seasons and the movements of the sun and stars, and using these as a basis for marking the passage of time. It could also involve incorporating traditional Mayan rituals and practices into our daily routines, such as the use of incense and offerings to the natural world, as a way of honoring and connecting with the land.

Another important aspect of Mayan day keeping is the recognition of the sacredness of time. In Mayan traditions, time is seen as a living, dynamic force that is interconnected with all aspects of the natural world. This understanding of time can provide a valuable framework for thinking about how we use our time and how we prioritize different activities and responsibilities.

Overall, decolonizing time according to Mayan traditions would involve moving away from the linear, clock-based approach to time that is common in Western cultures, and incorporating a more cyclical and sacred understanding of time into our daily lives. This can help us to better connect with the natural world and build more equitable and sustainable systems.

Decolonizing time can involve rejecting the Western model of linear time and instead embracing a more cyclical understanding of time. This is similar to the way many Indigenous cultures, including the Maya, view time.

In the Mayan calendar, time is divided into cycles, with each cycle representing a different phase or aspect of reality. For example, the 260-day cycle, known as the Tzolk’in, is used for divination and ritual, while the 365-day solar year, known as the Haab, is used for agriculture and other practical purposes. This cyclical understanding of time allows for a deeper connection with the rhythms and patterns of nature, and can provide a more holistic view of time.

To decolonize time according to the Mayan ways of day keeping, one could try to incorporate some of the Mayan principles and practices into daily life. This could also involve seeking out opportunities to learn more about the Mayan calendar and its significance, and engaging with Indigenous communities and knowledge-keepers to deepen one’s understanding of these traditions. It might also involve using the Tzolk’in and Haab calendars to mark important dates and events, or incorporating Mayan ritual and ceremony into daily life.

Ultimately, the goal of decolonizing time is to reject the dominant Western notion of time as linear and absolute, and instead embrace a more inclusive and holistic understanding of time.

My question:

What does the world gain in decolonizing Time and money?

ChatGPT Answer:

Decolonizing time and money can bring about a number of benefits for individuals and society as a whole. Some potential benefits include:

  • A greater sense of connection and belonging: By rejecting the dominant Western model of time and money, and instead embracing more inclusive and holistic understandings, we can foster a greater sense of connection and belonging with the natural world and with each other. This can help to build stronger and more resilient communities, and promote a sense of collective responsibility and solidarity.
  • A more sustainable and equitable economic system: Decolonizing money can help to create more sustainable and equitable economic systems, based on principles of fairness, reciprocity, and sustainability. This can help to reduce inequality and promote economic justice, and can also support the transition to more environmentally sustainable ways of life.
  • A deeper understanding of the past and present: Decolonizing time can also help us to better understand the past and present, by challenging dominant narratives and uncovering hidden histories and perspectives. This can provide a more nuanced and accurate picture of the world, and can help us to learn from the mistakes and successes of the past.

Decolonizing time and money can bring many benefits to the world. By rejecting the dominant Western models of time and money, which are often based on exploitation and domination, we can create more equitable and sustainable systems that better reflect the needs and values of all people.

One potential benefit of decolonizing time is a shift away from the narrow, productivity-focused view of time that is prevalent in Western societies. This can create more space for people to connect with their own internal rhythms and cycles, and to engage in activities and practices that are meaningful and fulfilling, rather than simply chasing after more and more productivity.

Decolonizing money can also bring many benefits. It can help to challenge the dominant economic systems that prioritize profit over people and the planet, and instead create more equitable and sustainable forms of exchange. This can allow for a more diverse and vibrant economy that is better able to meet the needs of all people, rather than just a privileged few.

Overall, decolonizing time and money can help to create a more just and sustainable world, where people are able to live fulfilling and meaningful lives, and where the needs of all people and the planet are prioritized. By rejecting the dominant Western models and instead embracing more inclusive and holistic understandings, we can create a more sustainable, equitable, and just world.

My question:

What are some concrete actions people can take to decolonize Time?

ChatGPT Answer:

There are many concrete actions that people can take to decolonize time. Some possible steps include:

  1. Educate yourself about the dominant Western model of time and its origins, and the ways in which it has been used to oppress and exploit people.
  2. Explore alternative models of time, such as the cyclical view of time held by many Indigenous cultures. Seek out and engage with alternative calendars and time-keeping systems. This could include learning about the calendars and time-keeping traditions of Indigenous cultures, or exploring alternative approaches to organizing and experiencing time, such as the concept of ā€œsacred timeā€ or ā€œdeep time.ā€
  3. Practicing mindfulness and being present in the moment. This can help to break free from the constant pressure to be productive and efficient, and instead allow for a more holistic and holistic understanding of time.
  4. Incorporate practices and rituals that honor the natural cycles of time into your daily life, such as setting aside time for reflection and connection with nature.
  5. Reflecting on and challenging one’s own relationship with time. This might involve examining how one’s own cultural and societal conditioning influences the way they think about and use time, and considering how to break free from those constraints.
  6. Challenge the notion of ā€œtime as moneyā€ and the pressure to be constantly productive. Consider ways to prioritize self-care and well-being over productivity.
  7. Support organizations and movements that are working to challenge the dominant Western model of time and create more equitable and sustainable alternatives. Engage with others who are also working to decolonize time. This could involve joining or supporting organizations and initiatives that are focused on decolonizing time, or connecting with others who are interested in these topics through online communities or in-person events.
  8. Engage in collective action and activism to push for systemic changes that challenge the dominant Western model of time and promote more inclusive and holistic understandings of time.

Ultimately, the key to decolonizing time is to actively challenge and reject the dominant Western notion of time as linear and absolute, and instead embrace a more inclusive and holistic understanding of time. By taking these and other concrete actions, individuals and communities can help to create a more equitable and sustainable world.

Lensa AI

Here are some Lensa AI reflections based on a handful of photos of me I gave it. What I’ve noticed is that Lensa is very good at picking up one’s culture from the clothing worn. I noticed that hints of my Indigenous traditional clothing was included in the way it clothed me.

I understand that what we feed Lensa can influence how Lensa creates new images. I felt that sharing myself was a way of Lensa seeing my roots and being included. I definitely felt seen. It felt spooky and affirming.

Have you experimented with AI? It is a hard no, or are you curious, like me, about what it can tell us about our place in these times?

“Ixchel is a gift for our time. Our work together transitioned me from a path of should-ing and burn out to tuning into my deepest call and making space for it.

The principles of flow Ixchel teaches are magical, rebellious and life changing. Their presence alone had a way of bringing me into deeper alignment with myself every time we met.

For anyone called to unhook from old systems and bring forth work from a deeper place within, Ixchel is a pioneer, an inspiration and incredible guide.

Ixchel’s work is world changing, one human being reoriented towards time…at a time. They are a powerhouse of wisdom, depth and knowledge and I felt so seen, informed and cared for in our session.

The way we’re doing things is not working and Ixchel is showing us a new way. I left our sessions feeling inspired, resourced and ready to be part of the change.”

— CARA JONES, UNTETHER YOUR VOICE

“Every session with Ixchel left my nervous system calm and peaceful in a full, embodied way. No matter what topic we were discussing, their ability to co-regulate without (apparent) effort, but just by being, filled me with ease and freedom.

Just being in a container with Ixchel is enough, THEN receiving their wisdom about Time, healing, breath, Flow, human design, and all things down-regulating is simply magic.

We completed by celebrating some shifts in my path since we’d begun, and we got to talking about integrity and purpose-as-essence in a really wholing and exciting way; even up to the last few minutes, we were making mind-expanding connections!

Thank you, Ixchel, for your energy and your beingness. So empowering (in such a parasympathetic way) to work with you.
