The Chiapas Highland Flow Writers’ Retreat, set for June 9-15, 2024, at Casa Flora Maria in my home town of San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, is a response to this need — a gathering designed to foster deep engagement with our creative practices and the world around us.

This retreat isn’t just an event; it’s a culmination of years of anticipation, resilience, and the unwavering belief in the power of collective and creativity to navigate the complexities of our times, and now wars on multiple fronts, recognizing that our creative work is intertwined with the fabric of collective shifts.

Creating Space for Emergent Writing and Culture-Making: Dive deep into workshops with me, Ixchel Lunar each morning. We’ll explore the weavings of writing rituals, creativity practices, Flow, and the decolonization of time, all while nurturing the courage to envision and create a better world. Afternoons and evenings will be space for writing in Flow.
Connecting with Nature and Heritage: Beyond the workshops, experience the breathtaking beauty of Chiapas through an artisan studio tour, connecting you with the local culture and inspiring your creative work. We’ll end the week with a delightful dinner in the heart of the city.
Creating an Inclusive Community: Share this journey with a diverse group of FLINTA* creatives and leaders (*Femme, Lesbians, Intersex, Non-binary, Trans and Agender. Due to shared rooms, this is not open to cis and gay men). Scholarship and Work Study Opportunity: Recognizing the barriers that may prevent talented individuals from joining us, we’re offering a BIPOC scholarship (based on need and project scope), affirming our dedication to inclusivity and mutual support. There may also be a work study opportunity for an aligned-fit person. Your Sanctuary to Cultivate Wild Presence for Thriving with a Planet in Transition
I was raised and bore children on the traditional, unceded, and stolen lands of the Coast and Central Valley Miwok (colonized as Petaluma, CA) and Nisenan (colonized as Sacramento and Fair Oaks, CA), past, present, and future. I also write, work, and live in the highland forest of the traditional, unceded and stolen lands of the Totonac, Nahua, and Mexicah, past, present, and future, in what is known as Coatepec, Veracruz, Mexico.

I also practice honoring rhythms of work, play, and rest so that I can serve you with embodied presence and with loving care.
