My Grandma Bea taught me to sew. I had heartache not bringing her Bernina with me. It was too heavy to fly. I bought a little machine down here to do hems, like these curtains. I feel close to her when I sew. I’m not good, but I can get the job done. Grateful for the skills. But I wish had done more to teach my daughters home skills. I felt it would limit their horizons, feminize them too much. Found these beautiful large ceramic pots at the Mercado Campesina in town yesterday (C110 each, $4). The organic nursery (vivero) there has some starts and succulents too. They sell bags of compost and a carbon and rice hull (granos y casco de arroz) mixture. I bought both to add to the pots. Temporary home until we can build the garden space. Need to erect a barrier so horses don’t munch on our herbs.
