Learning about our evolutionary diet is the Hazda has been so eye-opening. Eating more fresh foods at the right time, in season has profoundly changed my gut biome.
After years of chronic candida and leaky gut, spending ridiculous amounts of money on probiotic supplements and brews, I’ve found letting that go has helped my body find its balance.
Feed the good bacteria what it needs, prebiotic fiber. The microbiome is actually part of your overall super organism. Once you quiet the cravings from the Western crap diet you can hear what your body is telling you. Grateful to be getting back to my #centralamerican #roots

The San people of South African parts, also Zimbabwe, Zambia, Angola and Namibia. They are a #bushman hunter-gather type peoples, but farming is also something they will do. The San are one of fourteen known extant “ancestral population clusters” from which all known modern humans descend. And carry one of one most oldest Y chromosome haplogroups. The #Sanpeople are one the most geneticaly diversed of any humans studied. The #Hazda being the other group just as diverse. #history #human #poeple #africa #african #myrootsrundeep #humanrace #indigenous #indigenouspeople

Beans pack a lot of nutrients, including potassium, zinc, iron, magnesium, folate, and vitamin B6, among others. They also contain a healthy dose of fiber, which is good for gut bacteria and keeps us regular. Plus, they’re cheap. Legumes also contain substances called lectins and phytates, which actually prevent our bodies from accessing all the nutrients we eat. Lectins are beneficial for plants and not so good for humans. They act as natural pesticides that ward off predators. But when you eat and absorb them, they can wreak havoc in the body and potentially contribute to leaky gut syndrome. Beans are a great source of fiber, protein and minerals. But they do cause digestive problems for some and if you are diabetic, a mostly bean diet can trigger spikes in blood sugar. Again, moderate amounts are ok – meaning about up to 1 cup a day. If you have an autoimmune condition, prediabetes or diabetes, or leaky gut, you might want to avoid beans or eat them only occasionally. I go into much more detail about beans in my new book, “Food: What the Heck Should I Eat?” In this book I take the guesswork out of how to eat food that has the best information, the best quality to make you feel good now and prevent and even reverse illness.
