May 15, 2021 at 10:14AMWhen your settler colonialism has to pay young people to visit so you can convince them they are the chosen people to occupy land by violent force and make their newly acquired votes count more, there’s something wrong with your Zionism. When my kids were teenagers we were invited to send them to Israel, all expenses paid. They had bat mitzvah in Israel if they chose. I learned that Israel was losing citizens (dominance) and the voting block to support their colonization. They had to make Jewish votes count more to appear democratic. I understand the arguments about Jewish landback. But the violent forceful occupation is wrong. The concentration camps are wrong. There is no moral ground for what’s been happening there. A Hamas leader was born in the “refugee camp” in 1960. That’s 11 years before I was born. There is no hiding of what the US has done in creating this endless war. Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Mao, Capitalist. All live by force of dominance. What are your traditions grounded in for your resilience? Dominance or relationship? You choose.

February 24, 2021 at 09:21AMBubbles in the Water She lays beneath the surface, you wouldn’t know she is there except the tiny little bubbles that rise to the still, smooth surface of the water She lays motionless, with a smile waiting, wondering, dreaming under the surface The Muse. Will you receive her today? The rhythm of your Flow awakens her from her stillness as you walk the edge of between She feels your movement finding your footing rooting, grounding in your rhythm Keep moving, pushing through the discomforts of all that wants to pull your gaze away from locking eyes with her She is waiting for you, under the event horizon in the center of your galaxy Breathe. And the bubbles become a whoosh And she rises to meet you . . . Repost ???? December 24, 2020 at 12:10PMDecember 24th has always been the most precious of days on the calendar. It is my Grandma Bea’s birthday. On the day she was born, all the flowers were born. Though long since returning to aether, her presence today it ever palpable. She even carried a Christmas tree birthmark on her arm. ???? Bea loved sharing her birthday with our family as a way to bring everyone together around the old mahogany round table. We ate the tamales we had made together a few weeks earlier, with the let loose dance, libations and laughter. Wrapping paper would be torn in a squeal of delight and the room would burst forth with new toys for the dozen grandchildren and rent-a-kids. In the earlier days there would be an exquisitely decorated cake with winter scenes made by her master baker friend René. We would sing Las Mañanitas, hopeful for every beautiful morning. Her wrinkly skin so soft and sweet, like a raisin in the sun, reminding us to age in sweetness and let go of all that makes us bitter. Today is precious. I am still unwrapping her gifts and cherishing her smile, the greatest gift she gave me. Beatríz Withrow de Lunar (1921-2003)

December 22, 2020 at 09:32AMMy alma mater CIIS is hosting @adriennemareebrown in February (online, link below) Prevailing ideas around social justice activism tend to focus on “doing the work,” putting in long hours, and facing challenges head-on. Activism is rarely associated with personal joy and pleasure. But can there be a deep connection between activism and pleasure? How do we make social justice the most pleasurable human experience? How can we awaken within ourselves desires that make it impossible to settle for anything less than a fulfilling life? Author, Black feminist, and social justice activist adrienne maree brown has been talking, writing, and celebrating the intersection of pleasure and activism since her much-lauded 2019 book, Pleasure Activism: The Politics of Feeling Good. Pleasure activism is a politics of healing and happiness that explodes the dour myth that changing the world is just another form of work. Drawing on the Black feminist tradition, she challenges us to rethink the ground rules of activism. Through connecting with our inner desires and needs—physical, mental, emotional—we can become better organizers, activists, and social justice workers. Join Sonya Shah, CIIS professor and restorative justice expert and adrienne for a powerful and joyful conversation exploring how to tap into the full spectrum of our sensual desires and emotional needs while organizing for justice. Whether you’re a seasoned activist or new to supporting social justice movements, adrienne invites you to embrace the idea that activism can feel good. Please note that this conversation will be hosted live online and includes an audience Q&A. adrienne maree brown on Pleasure Activism, A Live Online Conversation with CIIS Register ($25 suggested donation): http://bit.ly/CIIS-amb . . . #pleasureactivism #adriennemareebrown #emergentstrategy #ciis #ciispublicprograms
