Last summer my lavender hive requeened after I had to pinch the queen. It was a strong hive, but slightly aggressive. After I requeened, it settled down. I met the Mariola bee! A friend has a feral colony in their wall. This tiny bee makes wax tube entrances, and tons of honey. Only 4-5mm, this stingless bee could be a good solution for women raising bees here. When splitting the hive, they swarm to a new location, set up the hive and share resources. Winterized the last hive today. This block of three frames of crazy comb was one I was looking forward to retiring from the hive. Last year’s experiment of using bamboo skewers didn’t work well. Using wire frames and separating the empty frames with drawn comb to prevent these artist bees from getting all creative again. #beekeeping #honeycomb #permaculture #bees #beeswax
I love my bees! I placed a few pieces of old honeycomb, including a queen cell (with powerful pheromones no doubt) next to the results of my solar melted wax.
