Hola Beautiful Wildling friend!!!
Happy Moonday, New Moon in Cancer! I have always loved Moondays because it’s the start of a new week of doing what I love.
The other evening my 78-year-old aunt texted me a photo of three alebrijes she found and bought for herself, my mom and their sister.
Alebrijes β a Oaxacan original β are delightful combinations of animals into mythical creations, made from wood and brightly painted in neon, psychedelic patterns.
My Canadian-French aunt, who speaks a bit of Spanish is hoping to come visit soon, and when she saw the alebrijes were from Oaxaca, she got all excited. Such a love!
My mom on the other hand will not be visiting me in Mexico. Not because she can’t. I mean, she just traveled to see Dead & Co one last time with my brother and nephew. But she won’t visit south of the border because in her mind it’s “not safe.”
I explained to my aunt that we’ll likely be moving to San Cristobal las Casas in a few months, and she’d love it there too.
Even if my aunt never makes it to visit, just the dream of her wanting to come is so sweet.
Our marketing agency just landed a gig for a book publisher, so things are finally shifting, as things do after my Solar/Lunar opposition cycles do.
My therapist in the 90s was a master astrologer, and I learned about the way kids go through these Solar cycles in growth and development. The first six months after a birthday, kids tend to be in the newness of the age, then confidence grows and after the Solar opposition kids are bolder being that age.
I noticed this cycle with myself and my partner too because we’re opposites, Sag/Gemini. Our phases tend to be at odds. This makes a good equilibrium.
Today with the New Moon in Cancer (opposite my Moon in Capricorn), I have felt so grounded and anchored. Not in a limiting way, but in a floaty way, like a tethered hot air balloon; able to see off yonder, feeling closer to the stars, but not so floaty I might wonder off and never be found.
@Threads of Time
I also feel very at home with the new Threads App. I was very early to social media in the mid 2000s. As a politician with significant internet experience, I was on Twitter showing my senior colleagues how it’s done. Many of those politicians went on to have very good careers in politics because they utilized social media well.
When I left politics, Twitter lost it’s shine for me.
Threads feels a lot like the crowd of the early days of Twitter, but with less check-in posts from about town and food updates. It’s more existential, deep, and friendly. But maybe that’s who I follow? Anyway, it doesn’t feel like a chore. It feels like I can be me. You can follow me there and say “hey”.
MΔori Decolonizing Dance Music
I got an alert for “decolonizing Time” and learned about the Matariki, “often referred to as the MΔori lunar new year, the festival of Matariki marks the mid-winter rising period of its namesake constellation β commonly known as the Pleiades β and signifies a time of beginnings and endings, coming together, remembrance of the dead, and traditionally, the planning of crops and planting.” (h/t the Guardian)
I love this quote about why some MΔori DJs are decolonizing dance music:
“We’re tangata whenua [people of the land] – we’re of this whenua. It’s about decolonising time, essentially, which is so big to try and understand. To me, that’s what Matariki is doing – reclaiming our time; the way in which we move about life.”
Medicina de Perezoso
If you’ve seen my signature talk on Decolonizing Time or heard me talk about the giant sloths of the Amazon jungle, you’ll know why I was so thrilled to see this recent article that’s blowing up colonial assumptions of humans in South America.
The long and winding burrows that these giant sloths carved with their claws over many generations is an experience of deep Time.
Evidence of humans working with giant sloth bones, possibly for adornment or ceremony, is being dated back 25,000 – 27,000 year ago! Medicina de perezoso (sloth) is quite old indeed.
And the TikTok from 7thFireMessenger below has more paradigm-shifting evidence of humans in North America as early as 18,000 years ago.
All of this is breaking the western archeological narrative that humans crossed the land bridge at the north, as Indigenous have been disputing for generations.

What I loved from TikTok this week (last one in Dragon Letters! Follow me on Threads app for more)
This section of my Dragon Letter hasn’t been getting many clicks and it’s a lot of work to set up the links and write captions, so please follow me on Threads if you’d like to see these in the future.
1. Dr. Nicole Truesdell has an incredibly decolonial take on the new moon and the nodes moving into Aries/Libra.
2. 7thFire Messenger brings the fire in calling in scientists to listen to the Indigenous origins stories in archeology as more news breaks showing earlier than thought evidence of humans in the Americas with artifacts over 18,000 years old.
3. This video about why habits are so difficult for neurospicy folks is so helpful. See, when we label these actions as habits, it feels more like an involuntary, automatic process, doesn’t it? But with rituals… it’s different. I call them rituals because rituals are filled with intent and purpose. And for neurospicy folks, they require our a presence.
4. This video is difficult as it compares 1933 incomes with 2022 incomes and sheds light on why we feel like we are not making headway in life.
5. Here’s a beautiful practice for getting connected to where you are.
6. Let’s marvel at the symphony of nature! Ever witnessed a storm raging in a volcano’s crater? Volcano lightning β a cosmic ballet of fire and electricity. Iridescent flashes darting across ashy plumes, a spectacle that leaves you speechless. Let’s appreciate the wild, unfathomable beauty of our planet!
7. This inspiring video from Alok, an advocate of interconnection talks about the division of βAllyship’ as a ‘you’ and a ‘me’, a division, a separation. Isn’t it time we embraced interconnectedness? To understand that our freedom is tied to each other’s, that our liberation can’t be isolated, and only collective love, collective fight can truly make a difference.
8. Conscious Lee’s shares this enlightening thought: Renaming ‘slavery’ as ‘the enforced migration of Africans’. By shifting the narrative, we illuminate the human tragedy, the gross injustice at the heart of it, rather undermining the brutal history with a single word. Let’s adopt this wisdom, Wildlings.
9. Feast your eyes on these green canopies. View them not just as trees or forests, but as our collective lungs, a life-giving force, a grand nurturer. They remind us of our obligation to the Earth, our home. To protect, to regenerate, and to coexist with these green wonders in the urban jungles.
Stay wild, love fiercely. Your presence is golden.

Your Sanctuary to Cultivate Wild Presence for Thriving with a Planet in Transition
I was raised and bore children on the traditional, unceded, and stolen lands of the Coast and Central Valley Miwok (colonized as Petaluma, CA) and Nisenan (colonized as Sacramento and Fair Oaks, CA), past, present, and future. I also write, work, and live in the highland forest of the traditional, unceded and stolen lands of the Totonac, Nahua, and Mexicah, past, present, and future, in what is known as Coatepec, Veracruz, Mexico.
P.P.S. I do not live or consent to the colonial impositions regarding the construct of Time. I also practice honoring rhythms of work, play, and rest so that I can serve you with embodied presence and with loving care. This means I may take several days to respond to your requests and questions. (h/t Eva Glamaris)
