Dry Season in the Chiapas Highlands has Ended | Dragon 🐉 Letter #75

It’s raining in San Cristóbal de las Casas. Yesterday there was distant thunder. It’s been very hot, muggy, and smoggy. But no rain. Today we are getting a good soaking. This means dry season (and wildfire season) is over.

I took a week off at the end of April to enjoy my kid’s visit. Several continuous days of not working. Something was going around. I was the last to get the sore throat, and then it moved to my lungs with the awful hacking cough. Not Covid, but not good.

I’m still having coughing fits, but it’s much better. Grateful for Lomatium and Mullein clearing the lungs and Traditional Medicinals Throat Coat with Echinacea to improve my body’s ability to keep up the fight.

We were delighted to find this graffiti cat on our walk in Centro. Photo of Zara Mooney by Zee Marcus.

On the last day of our gathering, my local photographer Kev met us at Arcotete to take some family photos. The last time we had real photos taken was when I ran for Congress in 2011. But they were quite manufactured for a certain political look and feel.

This time, everyone got to show off their best selves in whatever clothes they wanted. lol. Even Kev, our photographer, was looking fly in silver stiletto nails before their stage night at Chisco Social Club’s amazing drag show.

When the Arcotete photos are ready I’ll share them. For now, here’s a few shots from our Time together. (I miss them already. *sniffs)

Reawkening Creativity to Support Leaders and Creatives to Weave New Worlds

This year, I’ve been exploring how I could draw from my own creative practices and expertise in developing daily Flow practices to guide leaders, writers, and creatives in culture-making at the end of the world (as we know it).

The Chiapas Writing Retreat is one of the ways you can rekindle your wonder and awe for these times.

The other is a more accessible, ongoing practice I developed called Time Weavers Collective.

One of the most common issues people have that keeps them locked out of Flow is not recognizing and moving through resistance.

Even today, I had a huge amount of resistance before sitting down to write this Dragon Letter.

Feeling the thunder in my body. Watching the birds prepare for rain. I knew good things were coming. As I sat down to write — the rain began in drops here and there — I could feel the resistance dissolve and Flow begin.

Land Lineage

I was raised and bore children on the traditional, unceded, and stolen lands of the Coast and Central Valley Miwok (colonized as Petaluma, CA) and Nisenan (colonized as Sacramento and Fair Oaks, CA), past, present, and future. I also write, work, and live in the highland forest of the traditional, unceded and stolen lands of the Totonac, Nahua, and Mexicah, past, present, and future, in what is known as Coatepec, Veracruz, Mexico.

P.P.S. I do not live or consent to the colonial impositions regarding the construct of Time. I also practice honoring rhythms of work, play, and rest so that I can serve you with embodied presence and with loving care. This means I may take several days to respond to your requests and questions. (h/t Eva Glamaris)
