Reframe Series 1 of 5: If you feel like Time is slipping through your fingers…

It’s not because you’re lazy. It’s because your Time was colonized.

Hola! I’m Ixchel Lunar (they/them), an Indigenous time ecologist, ancestral medicine guide, and rhythm witch for creative rebels, decolonial dreamers, and neuroqueer visionaries. This Substack is dedicated to weaving business, body, and belonging into something no empire can replicate. Still punk as fuck. Still cozy in the chaos.

The next Dragon Letters is gestating. Until then, we will be revisiting my work and offerings in a 5-email series called Reframes. Enjoy!

Time Isn’t a Commodity — It’s a Kin

So many of us were taught that Time is something to spend, to save, to beat.
That if we don’t use every moment “productively,” we’re wasting it.
That rest is laziness.
That slowness is failure.
That if you stop moving, you’ll disappear.

But Time doesn’t want to be managed.

In my work and my bones, I know this:
Time is an ancestor.
A spiral.
A weaver of threads — not a ticking clock.

It holds grief and belonging.
It moves with Earth’s pulse, not the capitalist calendar.
And when we remember that, we stop outsourcing our worth to deadlines.

I didn’t come to this understanding in a workshop.
I came to it through illness, exile, and ancestral reckoning.
I was barred from dying at 15, then at 53, heard my own death announced, and demanded to stay. I’m not done yet.

I midwifed my abuelita’s death.
I’ve held space for others as they doula their unraveling of grief, exile, menopause, becoming.
I’ve witnessed lineages cry out through skin, spine, and dreams, and helped people answer.
I’ve sat with clients while their nervous systems remembered things their minds forgot.

I’ve guided visionaries through the ash of burnout back into rhythm, one ritual at a time.
I’ve built altars with broken bones and remembered names.
I’ve carried ancestral rites across borders, in my teeth, in my breath, undocumented under a dictator but undeniable.
I’ve sat in sweat-soaked silence listening to the wind carry my ancestors’ names back to me.
I’ve seen time slow down when someone finally feels safe enough to say no to what isn’t aligned.

I’ve walked this spiral.
I’m still walking it.

And I created something to help you begin your walk, too.

When we stop performing Time and start relating to it, we remember who we are.

The body slows.
The ancestors draw near.
Ritual becomes rhythmic, not rushed.
And we begin to live from a place that doesn’t leave us behind.

Your Sanctuary to Cultivate Wild Presence for Thriving with a Planet in Transition

Land Lineage

I was raised and bore children on the traditional, unceded, and stolen lands of the Coast and Central Valley Miwok (colonized as Petaluma, CA) and Nisenan (colonized as Sacramento and Fair Oaks, CA), past, present, and future. I also write, work, and live in the highland forest of the traditional, unceded and stolen lands of the Totonac, Nahua, and Mexicah, past, present, and future, in what is known as Coatepec, Veracruz, Mexico.

P.P.S. I do not live or consent to the colonial impositions regarding the construct of Time. I also practice honoring rhythms of work, play, and rest so that I can serve you with embodied presence and with loving care. This means I may take several days to respond to your requests and questions. (h/t Eva Glamaris)
