Dragon 🐉 Letter #104: Flow, Flare, and the Weight of Ancestral Time
Moving boxes everywhere. Nerves talking loud. Still, there’s this pull to refine the work, to make the visible match the soul of it. When we move from one version of ourselves to another, the signal flickers. What once fit feels tight. The voice we used no longer carries the same charge. As Neptune drifts back into Pisces and Mercury prepares to retrace its path, I’m reminded that reflection is movement. Re-vision is action. This season calls for both.
Hola! I’m Ixchel Lunar (they/them), an Indigenous-Time Ecologist, ancestral medicine guide, and rhythm witch for creative rebels, decolonial dreamers, and neuroqueer visionaries. This Substack is dedicated to weaving business, body, and belonging into something no empire can replicate. Still punk as fuck. Still cozy in the chaos.
Beautiful Wildlings,
To honour the energies of autumn, our connection to the natural world and to our ancestors, my friend and colleague Lisa Jara and I will co-host a gathering.
So we’re inviting you to join us in circle for Samhain Full Moon on November 5, to create and tend your altar, ground in the cyclical rhythms of this season, and begin a safe ancestral practice:

Time, Boxes, and the Liminal Stretch
This Dragon Letter is a bit overdue. Time has been getting timey-wimey (a Doctor Whoism). Being in this liminal temporary housing for what has seemed like forever (it’s only been three months) has suddenly caused the typical time pressure experience this past week or so as we close in on our moving date, which thankfully was moved up a week.
For the past several weeks, I’ve been getting a main website makeover as I prepare to change my URL from decolonizingtime.com to ixchellunar.com so I can preserve the former for the eventual book launch. Web development is a familiar Flow state for me, but I find I hyper-focus, unable to do multiple things at once when in process, lest I forget my place in the sequence of things.
🌐 You can explore my new branding and pages here…
This feels like Mercury preparing to retrograde, asking for review, refinement, and reorganization. The way code builds on itself mirrors how ritual builds on rhythm. Miss one tag, one offering, and the whole system refuses to load. That’s the nature of liminal work… the unseen syntax of transformation.
In the weeks since my last Dragon Letter, I’ve come up with several topics, written several paragraphs in my head, none of which were written down, and then summarily forgot all the said topics. It was a sign I was beginning to experience brain fog and increased inflammation that I shrugged off to my own demise.
Somehow, a few little tweaks in what I was eating resulted in an increase in histamines, which resulted in a Mast Cell Activation flare. The inflammation caused some subluxation somewhere in the neck and shoulder, creating some nerve pinching in the past several days. My right arm has become nearly incapable of movement without sharp pain. Fun times.
It’s strange how the body mirrors the house. How when things are boxed up and waiting, nerves compress, breath shortens, and flow tightens. The flare became a form of communication. A signal that something needed room to move again.
But I’ve identified how to reduce the inflammation further and introduced some new physiotherapy to help put things back in their proper place. The brain fog is subsiding enough that I’m able to cohere thoughts in actual sentences today, as evidently you are reading this missive. lol
Fortunately, we have been mostly living out of boxes the past few months, so there is very little to pack. The new home is about 12 minutes away. And I cannot wait to be working from my new office space. Isn’t this panoramic window of the jungle forest above the creek magnificent?! I’m excited to get to know this land more intimately.
The creek reminds me of how Time moves when we stop forcing it, constant yet changing, held by its own banks. Maybe the move isn’t about getting somewhere new, but about remembering that belonging is a relationship, not a location.
The Lines That Need Tending
Through my ancestral lineage healing, I’ve been exploring the migration of my settler ancestors and the lore of these people in my family. I’ve noticed that the longer the lineage has been in the US, the deeper the severance to their people, and hence more troubled the line has been.
It’s these lines that are getting the care and tending needed now. And I hope will help me ease burdens of harm they have brought to the US and to the living family. Because many of my 8 lines were either original people to North America or very recent immigrants, the severance was not as acute.
The ones who stayed longer in creating an empire learned to mistake control for care. Those are the lines that still whisper scarcity and strive… the ones who taught the body to forget how to listen. Repairing them is slow, like teaching the land to breathe again.
But as I turn my relational focus in day-to-day life to the people of the community where I now live, there is lingering emotional debt that has made letting go of my focus on the US collapse difficult. My people who had been there the longest and most invested in US imperialism are still stuck in that narrative.
Sometimes lineage repair looks like rematriating attention: no longer feeding attention to the story of collapse but tending the soil where new life is already sprouting.
A Stellar Reflection in Motion
To support this move to the forest and your own rhythm of renewal, I’m opening a Stellar Impression Mentorship Sale through Halloween.
Both tiers are 25% off. Save $500–1000 and get four months to pay if you’d like to stagger your tax write-off between this year and next. Or pay in full for the 2025 write-off and receive extra bonuses.
Use code 25offSale through October 31.
This isn’t a scarcity push, it’s an act of mutual flourishing. You get structured guidance to refine your website and message, so your presence mirrors your Stellar Imprint, and I get support for this move that anchors the next chapter of my work. Reciprocity in motion.
Stellar Impressions help you translate your energetic signature into a visible form… one that attracts aligned clients without forcing you to mimic marketing trends. It’s where astrology, Human Design, and story meet your rhythm.
Scorpio Season and the Return of the Deep
As we enter Scorpio Season, Neptune swims home again in Pisces and Mercury slows its spin.
This is the season of sacred editing… of composting what’s done and reimagining what still holds power.
Everything asks to be both felt and simplified.
So I’ll be here, hands tender but working, learning the new tempo of this land and body.
If you’re navigating your own version of the in-between (packing up, burning out, or feeling pulled between endings and beginnings), take this as permission to slow your scroll, to listen, to let the current show you where to place your next step.
This is the real work of decolonizing Time: not managing it, but making kin with it. Not rushing to move forward, but allowing the body, the ancestors, and the land to find their shared rhythm again.
Stay wild, love fiercely. Your presence is golden.
Maltiox! xo Ixchel
P.S. If you’ve been circling around visibility or feeling your message morph, this is your invitation to bring your presence into alignment before the year turns. The Stellar Impression Mentorship helps you translate who you are into what’s seen, your rhythm, your values, your rebellion, in a way that honors your energy instead of extracting from it.
Book your space before October 31 using code 25offSale. Let’s make your visibility regenerative.
P.P.S. Maltiox pronounced mall-tee-osh means with gratitude in K’iche Mayan.

Your Sanctuary to Cultivate Wild Presence for Thriving with a Planet in Transition
I was raised and bore children on the traditional, unceded, and stolen lands of the Coast and Central Valley Miwok (colonized as Petaluma, CA) and Nisenan (colonized as Sacramento and Fair Oaks, CA), past, present, and future. I also write, work, and live in the highland forest of the traditional, unceded and stolen lands of the Totonac, Nahua, and Mexicah, past, present, and future, in what is known as Coatepec, Veracruz, Mexico.
P.P.S. I do not live or consent to the colonial impositions regarding the construct of Time. I also practice honoring rhythms of work, play, and rest so that I can serve you with embodied presence and with loving care. This means I may take several days to respond to your requests and questions. (h/t Eva Glamaris)
