I want to share this great model of a mini-course from Alyssa Hall. It’s the Anti-Racism Mini-Course for Coaches. This first link is how she posted it on IG.
This second is the link to subscribe to the private podcast. She is working with a colleague, Lindsay Padilla from Hello Audio, that I’ve known from a mastermind years ago before Lindsay developed Hello Audio.
I’ve been very curious about this method of providing content in seeing Lindsay around the interwebs and on Clubhouse. I’ve been wanting to create a podcast for a few years, but have struggled with the idea of giving away too much of my content for free. But my ancestors are basically demanding that I start creating audio content for the Decolonizing Time content. So this model really caught my attention. The great thing that Alyssa is modeling is re-use of existing content. Sooooo good!

Green Reckoning
This was an excellent article in Sierra Club Magazine “John Muir in Native America: Muir’s romantic vision obscured Indigenous ownership of the land—but a new generation is pulling away the veil”. They hired Rebecca Solnit to look over the history of ignorance about First Nations life and reflect on what’s needed from so-called progressives to address racism in the ecology movements. What I found particularly striking was how obtuse the notable naturalist was in regard to the invisible care of the land by First Nations people. How could someone so observant and connected to the land also be so blind? A good lesson for not seeing what we don’t understand.

What has been lost in many people’s day to day and in the larger American Dream is the key element that helped many of us to succeed in the first place—community. Join author and activist Mia Birdsong and CIIS Director of Diversity and Inclusion Rachel Bryant for a conversation on reclaiming family, friendship, and communities. Sharing insights from her book, How We Show Up, Mia shows that what separates us isn’t only the ever-present injustices built around race, class, gender, values, and beliefs, but also our denial of our interdependence and need for belonging. Mia highlights how we can return to our inherent connectedness to find strength, safety, and support in vulnerability and generosity, in asking for help, and in being accountable. Did you know Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs was based in Blackfoot teachings?
This is one of the best videos I’ve watched in many months. The heads up came from Decolonize First Workbook, a liberating guide & workbook by Ta7talíya Michelle Nahanee. In the Workbook was this sidenote about Maslow’s learning from Blackfoot. I found this incredibly rich video from an Indigenous academic that lived with the Blackfoot.
The Decolonize First Workbook features 14 pages of process, prompts and links to resources to support your decolonizing journey. The workbook guides readers through personal and systemic framings and actions to shift out of colonial defaults and into critical consciousness.

I was raised and bore children on the traditional, unceded, and stolen lands of the Coast and Central Valley Miwok (colonized as Petaluma, CA) and Nisenan (colonized as Sacramento and Fair Oaks, CA), past, present, and future. I also write, work, and live in the highland forest of the traditional, unceded and stolen lands of the Totonac, Nahua, and Mexicah, past, present, and future, in what is known as Coatepec, Veracruz, Mexico.

I also practice honoring rhythms of work, play, and rest so that I can serve you with embodied presence and with loving care.
